Tie tips from Bird Dog Bay

The Dimple
Since the majority of novices might not be able to knot a tie perfectly at first; the best way to show off a good knot for both beginners and old hands is to put a dimple in the knot.  A little indentation right below the knot of the tie, a good dimple is made right before tightening the knot.  Simple push your finger into the tie just below the knot (but centered) as you tighten it.  It’s okay – it took us at Bird Dog Bay a few tries to get it right.

Untying the Tie
After you get your mind out of the gutter, instead of loosening the knot enough to slip over your head simply follow the tying directions in reverse.  Untying it properly will help prevent the tie shape from becoming distorted after time.

Packing and Unpacking
Whether jet setting on trips, going away for the weekend or if you are just plain messy then make sure to remember this tip to un-wrinkle ties.  Simply wrap the entire tie around your hand so it is in a roll and place it somewhere safe (not on the floor) overnight and in the morning the tie will look brand new (we are not implying stains will be magically removed).
