Simply put, not one of Steve’s friends in Chicago knows how to tie a bowtie. That’s pretty funny seeing one of their best buddies owns silk apparel company. If he had a nickel for every time he has gotten that last minute phone call to come over and tie their bow for them before they head to a black tie event he’d be a wealthy man, or at least well on his way.
He has hopefully solved the problem here with Bird Dog Bay’s signature bow. Steve nods his recently inherited bowtie collection from his Grandpa Clarkson, with six mother-of-pearl buttons instead of a hardware slide. This way Steve can tie a bow for his sartorial-inept buddies once and simply unbutton the back so they can apply the bow themselves at a later time. This also enables both the guy with the smaller 15” neck and the 18.5” linebacker to both size our bows with ease.
Plus, all of our bows are cut on the bias so Steve’s illustrations run straight across the bow, instead of a straight cut where they would run on a 45-degree angle. It is important to him that they read correctly, the way he draws them for our four-in-hands. And, of course, the bows are 100% silk, hand-printed and hand-made. |
